It's a sad month this month because it marks the very last edition of the monthly Newsletter to be published by Mac Fryatt. After over twenty years of doing so, Mac has decided the time has come to retire fairly gracefully from the scene and offer the opportunity to someone else to stamp his or her mark, personality, style or what have you on the Village. Many of you know he has had a bit of a health problem for some time, he has had his three score years and ten and his other interests are calling for more involvement from him. As at this time no replacement has been found which puts You and You and You under pressure! Surely there is someone in the Village who fancies having a bash at the Newsletter? If you have even a slight literary bent, you can exercise it and enjoy the chance to do so as indeed Mac has done for the past years.
All you need to do for starters is to contact the BVA Chairnan, Neil Thomas on 01483 851071 and chat to him. Then you can talk to Mac who can fill you in on the way it works and help you get started. Ideally, you will be computer literate, good at English, like writing, be interested in Village life and want to do it. Help to a new Editor is available.
Christian Aid Week this year is 15th -21st May and envelopes will be delivered to houses in the Village in the previous week.
The watchword this year is "Make Poverty History" so let's all accept a bit of the challenge.
Collectors will be round a day or three after the end of the week and will have identifying badges. Last year Brookwood contributed £1072 - now there's a target we can beat can't we?! (Don't forget if you are a UK Taxpayer to "Gift Aid" your donation and make Gordon Brown dig into OUR Treasury too with a tax rebate! See
www.christianaid.org.uk for more information on their work.
This month's Newsletter is sponsored by Carefully Clean who will happily Spring clean you and cheer your house up!

Neighbourhood Watch:
Two burglaries in Brookwood were reported last week.
One was an attempted distraction burglary where one offender attempted to distract the resident while an accomplice searched the other rooms in the house. This happened in the evening (between 9pm and 9.1Spm) and entry to the house was gained through an insecure rear door. The second was a forced entry to a rear bathroom window, via an extension roof.
Both victims are elderly. Both attacked premises are on Connaught Road, backing onto the railway line.
We know of other robberies that have taken place in our area involving distraction and ease of entry due to unlocked doors and open windows. The elderly are quite often the victims and therefore need to take extra care in making sure they lock up and don't make it easy. Money seems to be the target and these rogues are well aware of the hiding places people choose for their cash. Try to avoid keeping much cash at home. Don't display your cash when for example you collect your pension. NEVER LET ANYONE INTO YOUR HOUSE NO MATTER WHAT TALE THEY TELL YOU. Report any suspicious activity to the police. If they claim to be from the water board or electric company or gas company or telephone company always ask to see their authorisation and get a telephone number and phone to check if they are genuine. Yes, it's a bit of bother to do this but you could be the loser if you don't so what is the greater trouble?
