Helena runs her own design, typesetting and printing business "Greenprint & Design", so if you have any such work that you want to show a professional touch ring 834539. Always an enjoyable event!

We hear that Runnymede Homes are land-hunting in the Village again and have put out feelers to some houseowners to buy land and/ or property to continue their Railway land development now rejoicing in the name of Elphinstone Close. So far, 'nothing doing' seems to be the reaction. An unidentified approach was also made to the management Committee of the Memorial Halls to buy land backing onto Riverside Close. (Totally coincidental to the snip in last month's newsletter about the Hall's AGM!) The Committee are not interested, and being a charity, it would be extremely difficult to pursue anyway. All this development must mean that Brookwood is a wonderful place to live!

We almost forgot to remind you that the best Front Garden, best Tub or Hanging Basket, best Business display time is upon us again and you will want to do your bit to make Brookwood the garden of Woking! Judging in August, so talk to the plants and tell them to be at their best then!

"I talk to the flowers"
GroundsmanThe Memorial Halls have found someone to look after the grounds and it will be spick and span in no time! Some work has been carried out to improve the outside of the small hall and it is intended to clear brambles away from the back of the large hall to create a reasonable open space there. This is not the long-awaited landscaping scheme as the money isn't there to do all that is involved. It's simply a cosmetic upgrade to keep users happy!
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH!

Following a number of complaints the Police have asked Villagers to look out for teenagers riding motorcycles/bikes along the footpath from Knaphill to Sheets Heath. If you see this happening they ask that you note as much detail as you can about the bike and the rider, the date and time, so that positive action can be taken if offences are being committed. If the motorcyclists are causing an immediate danger to people, or their behaviour is going on for some time, then contact the Police Control Centre on 761991. Obviously, there have been a few incidents of pedestrians being bothered by this activity and it is better to do something about it before it results in a more serious happening.

Brookwood has been relatively crime-free for a while although there was a ram-raid at West Hill Golf Club in May -reported in the local press. The Graffiti Artist has been splashing about again. He needs to be caught in the act to bring his reign of vandalism to an end. He operates late at night so if you're a late bird or can't sleep and live near the centre of the Village have a look out of the front window now and again! Call the Police on 999 or 761991 if you spot him. Try to note as much information about him as you can; height, hair, clothing, etc.

Some idiot(s) has been throwing electric light bulbs into the School playground posing a nasty threat to the children with the smithereens of broken glass. If you see or hear anything call the Police on 761991.

Well, it's never happened before! So many bits and pieces have come along for the June issue that we've had to go in for a third page! Now we don't mind at all (even though it puts our printing costs up!) as we need to be able to offer the Village a way of communicating with everyone on whatever is exercising our minds, whatever is going on in the Village and all the activities that you should know about!
KEEP THE PIECES COMING -WE LIKE IT!

Ink Jet Cartidges INK JET CARTRIDGES
(can't get away from those blessed computers)
Brookwood School takes part in a project to recycle ink jet cartridges and would be pleased to receive any donations. All cartridges (except Epson} are useful to them. The School receives up to £1 per empty cartridge and a donation of 5Op is also made to support disabled athletes. So please drop any empty cartridges in at the School Office. (Ideally, they should be wrapped in a plastic bag but not sellotaped). If you have the opportunity to collect empty cartridges at work, PLEASE consider doing so. This money is helping the Village children without costing us a penny.

It will be available on the website for those who have access, but as long as our band of intrepid Newsletter boys and girls are willing, we shall hit the streets at the beginning of each month!

    MARY JOPE 1915 -2001
Sadly we report the death on 16th May of Mary Jope, aged 86 years. Mary, who lived in Connaught Road, came to Brookwood in 1937 and was a well known figure in the Village. Mary went to the Tilford Park Nursing Home shortly after her husband died in 1997. We offer our condolences to her family, as yet another chapter of Brookwood life closes.

    CHARLES PITT 1926 -2001
Charlie Pitt passed away on May 25th after a long illness that he bore with fortitude. Charlie, who worked in the building trade, lived in Heath Drive for 14 years. Our sympathies go out to Jean and the family on this sad loss.
