A Big Thank You!
Brookwood Village Association (BVA) Would like to thank Mac Fryatt for all his time and efforts over the years producing the Village Newsletter. His wit and special style became well-known to us all and many of us have missed this epistle since he decided to retire as Editor in the Spring. Now it's time to hand the baton on - but who to? After an appeal for a successor or successors some people have expressed interest in continuing the newsletter which is so useful for broadcasting our local events and news and keeping us all in touch with each other as a village. So come on all of you out there! If no-one has time to take it on, on a regular basis, let's get a team together and take it in turns. Contact Neil Thomas on 851071. Meanwhile, this is an interim newsletter to keep you all up to date with recent goings-on and things to come...

Parking Enforcement NEW PARKING
You will probably have noticed the yellow signs around the area stating new parking restrictions from 25 July. This means that instead of one traffic warden appearing just once a day at 1pm to check the CPZ, 4 more wardens have been appointed to enforce all the parking restrictions in Brookwood throughout the day, instead of the police. So beware! There are now going to be more rigorous checks at any time.

Girl GuidingCHANGING GUIDES
As of September, Karen White is sadly stepping down as Guider in Charge of 1st Brookwood Guides. Karen first took over running the unit in 1994 when it was 1st Pirbright Guides. In 1998 the guides moved to Brookwood, under Karen's leadership and became 1st Brookwood. Over the years Karen has been with the unit, over 120 girls aged 10-15 have been involved with the Guides, and all those still there will be sad to see her go. After 40 plus years in guiding, perhaps it really is time for a break! Karen and her husband Tony will be staying on as Quartermasters, so it's not goodbye at all, but time to see her in different role. Claire Stone will be taking over as Guider in Charge with Anita Smith as her assistant.

Anyone for tennis?SUMMER BALL
Following the success of the last 2 years, Pirbright Tennis Club are holding their third "Summer Ball" on Saturday 24th September in Lord Pirbright's Hall. With dancing to "The Monty", delicious food, bar, auction and silent auction, it promises to be another great evening. Tickets are £25 each and available now. Phone Ali Williams (481788) or Barbara Williams (232693) for details.
If anyone can kindly donate a substantial auction prize for this special evening they would be really grateful. All proceeds will go to further enhancing club facilities or the leasehold purchase for the benefit of the whole community.
Still not joined? New members of any age and standard are always welcome.

CAR THEFTS!
Stealing cars or from them seems to be the flavour of the month. One car was stolen off the owners' drive overnight. Make sure you don't leave anything visible in the car, and put on the crook lock when parking your car in the drive overnight. It's a deterrent even if it isn't crook-proof.

CRASH! BANG! WHOLLOP!

THE MEANING OF LIFE?

Explore the meaning of life at Holy Trinity Church, Chobham Road, Knaphill.
The next Alpha course starts on Thursday 29th September, 7.30pm and runs every week for 10 sessions.
Alpha Course?
The evening starts with a meal in the coffee room in the church hall and is an ideal opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening, low-key, friendly and fun way - with no question too simple or too hostile. It's completely free, but as meals are involved it would be good to know how many people are coming! Therefore, please call the church office on 01483 473489 and ask for either Jo Birkby or Christina Hayhoe. We look forward to welcoming you.
