21 year old Classical Reflection identical twins Naomi and Hannah have stunned audiences throughout the UK with their magical, moving and mesmerizing voices. Their close connection off stage allows them to create a very special sound which is as unique as their looks. As the girls point out "We believe our close connection as twins enables us to harmonise with one another in a way that's different to other duets, it's like singing with yourself"
In 2015 they wowed the nation following their appearance on BBC's The Voice, performing their rendition of Nella Fantasia accruing over 2.5 million views online. Tom Jones said "you really moved me, you have a beautiful, beautiful sound"

Loveday Singers is a group of young adults who started singing together with their conductor, Anna Loveday. The choir fluctuated in size with a change of personnel for the first few years, as people left to go to university. Over the last couple of years the average age of the members being slightly older has meant that Loveday Singers has started to become a more stable choir.

Adelaide based singer/harpist Siobhan Owen was born in Wales in the small town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, to a Welsh father and Irish mother. A classically trained singer from the age of 9, Siobhan took up harp in 2008 after being invited by French singer/harpist Cecile Corbel (who she met on Myspace) to sing at her Adelaide Fringe Festival show. Siobhan was so inspired by Cecile’s accompaniment of her singing, that she decided she needed to learn this instrument herself! In 2010 Siobhan presented her own Adelaide Fringe Festival show "Celestial Echoes" to great acclaim. Siobhan is a multi-award winning performer and has produced 4 indie albums.  The latest, "Storybook Journey", receives airplay on radio stations worldwide.

Established in 1987, the Octavian Singers have gained a justifiable reputation for achieving high musical standards and producing ambitious and popular musical events in Woking, Surrey and the surrounding areas.

CHOTA"Churches on the Air" CHOTA
Saturday 12th September

Two Amateur (HAM) Radio stations were active at St Saviour's church. Ofcom granted a special call-sign GB4STS for the day, which coincided with the national Churches on the Air (CHOTA) event.

We were very fortunate to have Peter M0URL, an ex-Merchant Navy Radio Officer giving a superb live demonstration of Morse code communications, still in use in this century!

Radio propagation conditions were not very helpful on the day (sunspot activity) and although a number of Russian stations were heard, the furthest two-way contact (QSO) was with Zola HG30CW in Hungary at a distance of nearly 1,500km, all in Morse code! Continental QSO's included France and Germany. Closer to home, we had a brief conversation with the National Trust at Polesden Lacy.

A number of youngsters tried their hand at the Morse Mouse computer game, usually beating their parents and sending messages using Morse Code practice keys. One resident brought in a Meccano Morse key he made about 25 years ago, which he showed was still working and Walky-Talky's were seen clasped in earnest young hands striding purposefully around the church.

Amateur radio for all agesA large screen showed live aircraft movements in the South East as seen by Air Traffic Controllers using secondary radar signals (ADSB). This was augmented with an Air-band radio feed from Farnborough Airport. A group of young boys thought this was fascinating and helpfully repeated the initial explanations to any new visitor...

A Raspberry Pi computer (credit card sized) showed a global map with tracks of radio satellites and the International Space Station.

Cutting edge technology in the form of Software Defined Radio (SDR) was ably explained by Dave Lugton.

The common theme was “I didn't know there was so much in Radio!” Full Report

Academix are a contemporary a cappella band based in Woking, bringing close harmony pop and jazz to Surrey.  Starting with the tradition of The Swingle Singers, they add the movement, smooth grooves, and unique arranging style that has been so successful with TV shows like Glee and the 2012 hit movie Pitch Perfect.  Their sets range from the Beatles to Beyonce and from Lady Madonna to Madonna. The band was founded in 2014 by Jonathan (tenor and VP), who grew up with Anita (sop), married Cate (mezzo) and met Cat (alto) while singing with the Mosaic chamber choir.  Neil (bass) … well, we got him off the internet.

?... QUIZ NIGHT...? Saturday 24th January 2015 - 7.30pm
What a great start to the year's events!
We drove away those dreary January blues with a lively evening of topical questions and answers hosted by James and his wife Dawn who also run quiz nights for groups in Kent. Families and friends of all ages gathered to make up teams of 6-8, did some headscratching and had fun. Questions ranged from Geographical, Great Britain, Transport, a Picture round, General Knowledge, a Magical Music round (through individual battery powered speakers on each table) and a fiendish Film round (James' favourite topic). We were also reminded that Libby Lane was due to be consecrated as the first woman Bishop on Monday 26th January.

New chairs are in!

...and the New Chairs are here!

Delivered on Saturday 13th December, by a cheery driver from the manufacturers, Race Furniture, just in time for the Christmas journey Messy Church!

The new chairs will allow much more flexibility for service and event layout and look just the job, being visually smart and contemporary, colour co-ordinated with the new carpet, light to lift, move and stack, stable to use for support, comfortable to sit on and delivered in time for a packed Christmas programme... Well done to all the ReGeneration team.

Although the community has been most generous to date, the church is still looking for additional donations to fully fund the chairs and carpet, so if you would like to contribute to the church (and adopt a new chair? - sorry no penguins), please contact Yvonne Craven on 01483 480273 or email

The New Flooring is in... (13th November)
Thanks to all the team led by Tim Benson for all the effort involved in organising the removal of all the pews and floor preparations before the new carpet was laid.

The whole Church feels more spacious now (with that new carpet smell), as if waiting for the many and varied groups of people to fully use this exciting new flexible space!

The new chairs will be delivered very soon and we look forward to welcoming our congregation and Brookwood community members to our refurbished Church.

New carpet laid! 13 Nov 2014
Floor laid bare
    4th Nov 2014
This is the last time we'll see the old floor boards for a few years...
There was a fair amount of work to do after the pews went and there were one or two suprises as well!
Thanks again to all those who helped unscrew and move the old pews, may the new owners benefit from the seasoned mature timbers!

GOING, GOING, ALL GONE!

St Saviour’s Church would like to thank Brookwood residents for being so generous in buying all the church pews in our September auction. An amazing £2000 was raised towards the cost of new chairs and flooring, with a further £1000 raised in the promise auction.
Special thanks go to Andrew Coe who turned the auction into such an entertaining evening with a splendid performance as auctioneer from the pulpit! It is reassuring to know that many pews are staying in Brookwood homes, in fact, look out for some in the bakers/post office.

StS ReGeneration Project -
continuing plans to enhance St Saviour’s Church for the greater Community in Brookwood.

Also, many thanks for all those who came to the Loveday Singers Concert on 18th October.
It was a magical evening, performed by wonderfully talented young singers. Their songs, solos and varied repertoire held us spellbound throughout, with many of us feeling privileged to hear such musical professionalism in the centre of Brookwood. A stunning evening right on our doorstep.

Look out for further events in the New Year!

LOVEDAY SINGERS

On Saturday 18th October the Loveday Singers came back to enthral and entertain us with their varied repertoire of songs ancient and modern.

These skilled and enthusiastic young people have the ability to raise that inner smile and the hairs on the back of your neck!

This young choir have been singing together for six years throughout Surrey and competing at many music festivals. Their concerts include classical and contemporary music, and there was something for everyone at this very enjoyable evening.

PEW Auction - ALL SOLD!
Friday 26th September
, at St Saviour’s Church
As part of the ReGeneration project for St Saviour’s Church, we have launched our fund-raising campaign with an auction of the pews to raise money towards our new chairs and flooring.

The pews are made of seasoned pine, are 100 years old, and vary in length from 133 to 310cm. All are 87cm high by 51cm deep. So, it looks like some of you will have a piece of Brookwood history in your kitchen, dining room or garden!

We also introduced our new chair and will be delighted if anyone else would like to make a donation towards one at a cost of £95 each, to keep in the church. If you could not attend on the evening and would like to donate a chair, please contact Yvonne Craven on 01483 480273 or email.

Following the pew auction, there was a promise auction. Offerings for the auction, big and small, included items such as an hour’s gardening, a dinner cooked, a ride in a special car, a weekend in a holiday home and an evening of babysitting.

Whether you were buying or just looking, we were glad to see so many of you as it made for an enjoyable and very successful evening!
